What to Consider Before Getting a Tattoo

Tattoos and body art are becoming more popular as time goes by. And tattoos have progressed from small images to large works of art that cover significant portions of the body. Before you get a tattoo, consider these things. I’m not going to talk about the health conditions involved in getting a tattoo. Any reputable tattoo parlor will advise you of possible health risks with tattoos. The considerations that I’m referring to are the nature of tattoos. Tattoos are permanent. A few moments or hours under the tattoo artists needles and you’ve got an image stamped on your body for all of time. Yes, tattoos can be removed, but it isn’t easy or cheap to remove a tattoo. And you paid the money for the tattoo; why pay the money to have it removed.

Before you get a tattoo, consider these things. First, do you really want to be stamped for the rest of your life? If you get your tattoo in a visible spot, will you be able to cover it up? I know, you didn’t get the tattoo just to cover it up. But there may come a time when you’ll want or need to cover your tattoo. It might not be a bad idea to have the tattoo placed where you could cover it if you need to.

Also a word about tattoo designs. Consider very carefully what you want on your tattoo. Remember, you and everyone else will have to look at this thing for the rest of your life. Do you want to wake up every morning to a skull and cross bones on your arm? Also, if you are in a relationship, you may want to refrain from embedding that status permanently on your body.

When I was in high school, I dated (very briefly) a man older than myself (well, chronologically that is). I ended the relationship after about two weeks when I saw that he wasn’t the sharpest pencil in the box. Nice guy. Just not relationship material. At any rate, he joined the army and went to Germany. Convinced that I would see the error of my ways and return to him, he had my name ‘Marilisa’ entwined with roses, tattooed on his forearm. Alas I did not repent my straying and now he’s stuck. 30 years later he and his wife, girlfriend or current lover, still have ‘Marilisa’ between them.

What Teenagers Should Think About Before Getting a Tattoo Any eighteen year old can walk into a tattoo parlor any day of the week and walk out with a tattoo. But, should they? Is Facial Jewelry and Body Art Really that Offensive? Recently the wife’s new employer asked her to remove her nose ring.
